South. The fires so far have killed at least three people. 64,000 have evacuated san mateo and santa cruz counties as the fire rages. Cal fire expects these fires to grow significantly. That growth is putting a big strain on resources. Ten states have contributed or pledged assistance. Hes pledged help from australia and canada. We want to take a look at the czu lightning fire, 50,000 acres and spreading, still no containmt. E un where tens of thousands of people have been evacuated. Ie know that cal fire can only give us statistics, we know that 20,000 structures are threatened, 50 destroyed, 64,000 people evacuated. Its one other thing to hear the personal stories behind those numbers. Thats what we got as we went into the evacuation zones, the air quality was downright dangerous, not as devastating as what we found there, homes burned to the grounds. We started to come back the next day on wednesday, and we were able to get a significant amount of the precious things. But for the fa
Was on fire. Reporter thats andy immel standing in the photo surrounded by whats left of the home he built over 42 years. H nifds gandline. Nd tdher, j s big cry. Before that it was we dont know, maybe. We kept hope. Reporter but on that morning that the immels were still hoping, this is what was happening in their neighborhood and all over boulder creek. By morning it was all rubble. The bits and pieces that make a home completely charred. This street, fallen leaf drive, completely devastated. Still there were streets that prove just how unfair a fire can be. Her burned to eground. That just goes to show that we dont have the resources on it that we would normally. If this were a normal situation where, say, this were only one or two fires within the state, we would have more resources here. Reporter cal fire crews stretched thin, dealing with this kind of work. Spot fires that are smoldering slight change in weather conditions. You dont really grasp what it really means to be in that
Getting ready to give us an update in just a few minut czu burning south of San Francisco, so we are waiting on that. And while we do were going to check in with meteorologist lisa argen. Whats happening right now, lisa . Good morning, liz. Yesterday we had a nice welldefined marine layer. This morning not the case. Its pretty diffuse and looking at a layer of smoke over the bay area. Decreasing visibility at the shore. That 4 to 5 mile visibility from the smoke over from livermore to san jose where the air quality is unhealthy for sensitive groups there. Elsewhere, moderate around the bay. And looking at that to change today as that smoke layer continues to shift as we get our windsg nrom t oday. Up ingaleis 7 a hennessy f 73 degrees with very light winds. As we to vacaville temperatures in the upper 60s, winds light and down over in la honda around 70 degrees and light wind. High pressure is Building Back in and with that weve got a high fire weather watch with critical fire danger f

And this morning as the High Pressure ridge to the south of us builds back into the bay area were seeing less of a marine influence. We still have the haze, the smoke. 2 miles Half Moon Bay, thats with the fog. And as we look at the air quality we can see its not good for sensitive groups in the south bay, also around livermore and into oakland as well as walnut creek. But moderate air quality up in the north bay. So up towards santa rosa. Its better right now but you know how those winds shift and move that smoke around throughout the day. We can expect that oakland, San Francisco 56 on the coast, and by 9 00 weve got 60s. The fog is at the shoreline, but by the afternoon were warming up into the ening dttays offsho building across the region. Thats going to lead to a high disturbance list.
