VIDEO: Lancaster County's progress in the pandemic

KLKN-TV May 18, 2021 3:35 pm The  COVID-19 Risk Dial has dropped into the ‘green,’ meaning that the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) considers the risk of spread in our community to be minimal. Mayor Lierion Gaylor Baird and LLCHD will no longer be holding weekly televised updates. Written updates will still be posted daily, but televised press conferences will be scheduled as needed. According to Mayor Gaylor Baird, about 67% of Lancaster County residents, ages 16 and older have gotten at least one vaccine shot. Upcoming public mass vaccination clinics include: Monday, May 17, Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, 31st and “O” streets – first and second doses

KLKN-TV May 4, 2021 3:28 pm Click  here for a list of this week’s vaccination clinics. Mayor Lierion Gaylor Baird says last week’s school-based clinics resulted in 2,600 students and families getting vaccinated. Currently, the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) is working to bring vaccinations to you through neighborhood clinics. In order to fall back into the ‘green’ of the risk dial, LLCHD wants at least 75% of the county’s population to be fully vaccinated. This equals about 184,000 residents. So far, 120,000 residents have been fully vaccinated. Health Director Pat Lopez says the most common reason she’s heard of people not getting vaccinated is that they ‘just haven’t gotten around to it.’ She encourages all residents to sign up for a vaccine with LLCHD or DHHS. They will reach out to you via email to schedule an appointment.

(KLKN) — Monday, the Lincoln City Council voted in Dave Engler as the new Fire Chief. “It’s just been an amazing career, and it’s an amazing city to work in,” commented Engler. “Some people would say, you achieved your dream, but I never actually dreamed that I would be in this position.” Engler, a 25-year-veteran with the Lincoln Fire department, has been the Acting Chief since former Fire Chief Michael Despain stepped down in March of 2020. Following an extensive interview process, Mayor Lierion Gaylor Baird announced she would be nominated Engler for the position on March 31.
