january 6th in less than 24 hours from what is likely to be their final public hearing. that attack on the capitol was fueled by conspiracy theories and lies about the 2020 election. and so far, nobody has been held accountable for telling those lies. but this afternoon, in connecticut courtroom, a jury revealed that someone who spreads lies for a living can be held accountable in a big, big way. conspiracy theorists alex jones, who for years has claimed the sandy hook school shooting was a hoax, made up. today he was ordered to pay almost one billion dollars in damages to the families of eight sandy hook victims. two of those parents who are in the courtroom this afternoon will join the late in the hour. alice, jones he was not just telling folks about sandy hook. the january six committee subpoena jones over his efforts to spread misinformation out the 2020 election as well. the committee highlighted this video of jones during a hearing that took place last summer. it sat
new york. i m chris hayes. tomorrow the january six committee will be holding what maybe, a little unclear but maybe their final hearing. they will be apparently divulging new evidence showing how the ex president directed the attempted coup. washington post reports that the committee quote is expected to highlight newly-obtained secret service records showing how trump was ribbed levy alerted to bloom violence that day, and he still sought to stop the conflict. that includes internal emails that further buttress accounts about staff members warning trump about the risk and then the reality of violence that day as he continued to press nervous secret service agents to take him to the capital to join the marching. when you know there s been some justifiable controversy around the fact the secret service deleted text messages from the key days january 5th and sixth after the oversight officials requested them. but the committee has been able to obtain other electronic communica

against the former handling of white house documents appears to be growing by the day. tonight, reporting from the washington post and the new york times, seems to provide the justice department more potential evidence. both papers reporting the back in february, one of trump s lawyers refused his clients request to tell the national archives that everything had been returned. the post returns this. the lawyer declined because, he was not sure the statement was true, according to people familiar with the matter. the paper reports that that lawyer was alex cannon, who is responsible for the transfer of 15 boxes of presidential records, from mar-a-lago to the national archives back in january. he is the very same alex cannon who testified to the january 6th committee, that he told white house chief of staff mark meadows, that there was no evidence of voter fraud in 2020 election. the papers say that both trump and cannon have yet to respond to specific questions about this docu
