There are about 630 F-35 Lightning IIs in the field today in nine nations, including the U.S., the program executive officer for the F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Office said. Five of those nations have deployed the F-35 in combat.
Air Force Lt. Gen. Eric T. Fick spoke yesterday at the McAleese FY2022 Defense Programs conference.
“The F-35 delivers truly game-changing capabilities today. With its combination of stealth, sensor fusion and interoperability, the F-35 is truly the quarterback of the joint force,” he said.

A few months back, pilots of the Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 (VMFAT-501) conducted the mass launch of the Lockheed Martin F-35B fighters at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort (MCAS), South Carolina. Alion Science and Technology has obtained a five-year, $77 million task order from the USAF F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Office (JPO) for aircraft and weapons systems R&D.
The company will provide research, technical studies, and analysis on weapons systems and platforms, including shipboard and airborne radar and electronic systems; electrical generation systems; weapons control systems; engines; aircraft launch and recovery equipment; support equipment; and other complex machinery.
