Karnataka budget offers sops to caste groups, promises to set up Vokkaliga development board

The announcement came four months after the government established the Karnataka Veerashaiva Lingayat Development Corporation for the to help the largest caste group in the state, and also the Maratha Development Board. Yediyurappa had promised Rs 500 crore to the Lingayat Corporation and Rs 50 crore to Marathas.

Chief minister BS Yediyurappa in his budget offered sops to Vokkaligas and other communities, after he took care of own Lingayat community last November. The budget announced the formation of a new board for the development of Vokkaligas, the second largest caste group in Karnataka, and handed out a fat Rs 500 crore to the board.
