Brad Marchand almost had the perfect ending for his 1,000th career NHL game. The Bruins captain had two assists in regulation and almost scored the game-winner in overtime, but Andrei Vasilevskiy deflected the shot high and then stopped all three Boston attempts in the shootout to deliver a 3-2 victory for Tampa Bay on Tuesday night. Vasilevskiy stopped 36 shots and Brayden Point scored the only goal of the shootout for Tampa Bay.

Brad Marchand had a pair of assists in his 1,000th career NHL game, all with Boston, but Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy played spoiler.

The Bruins lost in the shootout to the Lightning on Tuesday night, but Jim Montgomery was proud of Boston's effort.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 36 shots and three more in the shootout, and Brayden Point scored the only goal of the shootout to lead the Tampa Bay Lighting to a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.

"Nobody has more effort and emotion and loves being a Bruin more than Brad Marchand,” coach Jim Montgomery said.

Tampa Bay beats Boston in a shootout as Marchand becomes just the eighth person to play 1,000 career games with the Bruins.
