In something straight out of a sci-fi movie, a young man from Finland has a good chance to claim the title of the world’s first cyborg. Jerry Jalava has transformed one of his fingers into a sort of USB memory stick equipped with the Linux Operating System.
Jalava, a computer programmer, lost his finger during a motorbike accident outside Helsinki. After the operation, he went back to the hospital to be fitted with a prosthetic finger. It was there than one of the medics suggested he fashion a removable plastic finger with a memory stick embedded in it.
Russia’s Pravda newspaper reports that Jensen is thrilled to have two gigabytes of memory implanted into his fake finger. “It is not attached permanently to my body so when I’m using the USB I just leave my finger inside the slot and pick it up when I’ve finished,” he said.
