KILLEEN, Texas One Killeen ISD student is working to repair relations between police and the community.
Antonio Fox, a Harker Heights High School senior, hosted a community event Saturday called It Takes Both Sides to Bridge the Gap as part of his scholarship project.
He was awarded the 2021 Murphy Lee Service Scholarship through the Educated Angels organization.
The goal was to create positive interactions with police officers. We ve seen such a negative connotation and stigma surrounding police officers. I ve realized that being a police officer isn t just wearing the badge. It s essentially making change, Fox said.
This Saturday, Harker Heights High senior Antonio Fox is hosting an event aimed at bringing police and members of the community together to break the ice.
Antonio Fox, a senior at Harker Heights High School, is planning a community project from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lions Club Park in Killeen to provide the community and police officers a space to cultivate positive relationships within a fun environment. The event is open to the public.
A recipient of the 2021 Murphy Lee Service Scholarship through the Educated Angels organization, Fox was given the opportunity to develop a scholarship project, which he titled âIt Takes Both Sides to Bridge the Gap.â
âThe purpose of this event is to help repair the perceived relationship between our community and law enforcement officers and provide a safe and fun space to help breed that positive interaction,â Fox said. Foxâs desire to become a law enforcement officer after college has pushed him to create opportunities to bridge gaps now in hopes to create a better future for all.
About a dozen and so people gathered at Lions Club Park in Killeen, dressed in royal blue and were ready to brave the windy Saturday morning to walk about two miles to bring awareness to colon cancer.
