Brian May reignites 'Spirit of Rock's smouldering embers' amid 'feelings of despondency' | Music | Entertainment

Last December, May and Ellis released festive single One Beautiful Christmas Day and Express.co.uk had a chance to catch up with the singer. During our chat, we asked about future projects for the pair and the 41-year-old shared how they’re working on a new album together. Ellis said: “Ironically, before the first lockdown we were in the studio three songs into a new album. “This [Christmas song] was to put something out, keep the interest out there, and then hopefully when we can get back into the studio again we’ll carry on with that!” Trending Ellis added: “It’s been difficult but we’re on the road to a new album…hopefully sometime next year maybe.”

After an incredible start to 2020 with a string of concerts in Asia and Oceania, Queen and Adam Lambert were looking forward to the UK and European leg of their Rhapsody tour. However, the pandemic saw those concerts, including a 10 night residency at London’s The O2, rescheduled to 2021. And now Brian May, Roger Taylor and the singer are “heartbroken” to announced that they are having to postpone their highly-anticipated tour to summer 2022.

Queen and Adam Lambert share their live performance of Freddie Mercury's Love Kills WATCH | Music | Entertainment

But perhaps the concert film’s biggest highlight has to be the full six-song set from Fire Fight Australia in Sydney last year. There, the band performed Queen’s iconic 1985 Live Aid set in full. This section kicks off with Bohemian Rhapsody and Radio Ga Ga before Freddie’s Ay Ohs are sung along to by the audience. While what else could the ending be but We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions? Meanwhile, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Queen’s classic line-up, when John Deacon joined the band as bassist in 1971. Trending Having been forced to postpone their UK and European tour dates in 2020, Queen and Adam Lambert are set to perform those dates this summer.

Freddie Mercury: Queen finish 2020 in UK Top 10 best-selling vinyl records chart

Just 11 albums have taken 10 years or more to break into the Billboard 200’s Top 10. Only one album beat Queen’s Greatest Hits’ 39 years and one month after release record. And it was Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song, which took 55 years to enter the Billboard 200’s Top 10 after its 1963 release. Additionally as of August 2020, Queen’s Greatest Hits has spent over 900 weeks on the UK Albums Chart. The album, therefore, holds the record for the most weeks on the UK Albums Chart. While in the UK, the record has been certified 20x platinum, with sales of over 6 million copies.
