A new traffic light system will be installed on a road in Newtown that has seen a number of accidents. Plans to improve the Nantoer Bridge area of Llanidloes Road include reducing the carriageway to one lane, with two-way traffic-controlled lights. The speed limit on the approach and under the bridge will be reduced from 40mph to 30mph. Cllr Heulwen Hulme, Cabinet Member for Highways, said the area has been a “significant concern for many years”. The existing traffic lane under Nantoer Bridge will be used to create an extra wide pavement for walkers and cyclists. Road works will also begin in the New Year to extend a path between the college and theatre on Llanidloes Road.
