Thousands sign petition urging parliament to reinstate sacked judges By Choekyi Lhamo DHARAMSHALA, MAY 18: The petition to reinstate the sacked judges of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission that was launched on May 4 and has now reached 1100 signatures. The petitioner Tenzin Woeser who initiated the petition has sent the documents to the MPs individually and to the TSJC and the Kashag (Cabinet). The petition calls on the members of the TPiE to “restore trust in the institutions of CTA and Tibetan movement”, “set aside regionalism and sectarianism”, “allow the newly elected Sikyong and MPs to immediately assume office”, and “stop causing further internal conflicts” as a way forward to solve the ongoing row.

Two replacement MPs sworn in By Tenzin Dharpo DHARAMSHALA, Apr. 16: Following the resignation of U-tsang MP Pema Jungney and Domey MP Lobsang Choejor, two replacement MPs were sworn in for 16 th Tibetan parliament in Exile on Wednesday. Ven. Geshe Gangri of Domey province and Mr. Namgyal Qusar of U-Tsang province were sworn in by the Deputy Speaker Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok. “Even though the term of this Parliament is soon to be over, it is an opportunity for all to work for the best of our cause and conclude the 16th TPiE in great terms, which would be the best offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama,” said the Deputy Speaker.

Speaker Pema Jungney resigns over impeachment of judges By Tenzin Dharpo DHARAMSHALA, Apr. 8: Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile Pema Jungney has resigned from the Speakership and as a parliamentarian of the 16 th Tibetan Parliament in Exile (TPiE), on moral grounds on Thursday. Jugney announced his resignation through his personal Facebook account this morning. The resignation comes after the uproar caused by the parliament’s removal of the Chief Justice and two Commissioners of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission (TSJC) last month. On March 25, during the budgetary session, 41 MPs in attendance voted to a 31-10 majority to oust Chief Justice Commissioner Sonam Norbu Dagpo, Justice Commissioner Karma Damdul, and Justice Commissioner Tenzin Lungtok. The Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile Pema Jungney who spearheaded the move, at the time said it was necessitated to protect the charter.
