Astronomers discover that a supernovae explosion 14 million years ago initiated a chain of events responsible for the formation of all nearby, young stars.

Leah Hustak (STScI) Cambridge, MA — The Earth sits in a 1,000-light-year-wide void surrounded by thousands of young stars – but how did those stars

The solar system lies inside a structure called the Local Bubble that is some 1000 light years across – and a map of its surface shows it is the site of star formation

Scientists have shown how a chain of events led to the creation of the vast bubble that is responsible for the formation of all young stars within 500 light-years of the sun and Earth.

A new study into the Local Bubble, a cosmic void surrounding Earth, has mapped out the star-forming regions on the bubbles surface and uncovered more information about its explosive birth.

A team of astronomers has reconstructed the history of our local universe to understand the origin of the nearest stars. In a study published today in

The Solar System floats in the middle of a peculiarly empty region of space.

Our entire solar system and some nearby stars may be surrounded by a vast magnetic tunnel, according to a Canadian scientist who has set out a unified theory to explain two existing features in space.

The fact that the solar system could be traveling through a highly magnetized filament in space may also explain mysterious rope-like structures in the sky.

An astronomer with the University of Toronto designed a model that found the North Polar Spur and the Fan Region are connected and form a massive magnetic funnel around our solar system.
