In Wiltshire 866 speeding fines were handed out to motorists between January 1 and December 23, 2020. Despite the roads being quieter during the lockdown months of 2020 the number of speeding fines issued shot up by a staggering 48 per cent. In 2019, Wiltshire Police handed out 582 fines for speeding. By far the most common speeding fine came from drivers going too fast through 30mph zones, with 510 fines issued. This figure is nearly double (271) the number of fines for the same offence given to drivers in 2019. Motorists driving too fast in 40mph areas received 132 fines last year, a massive increase on the 50 fines issued in 2019. Additionally, 43 fines were handed out to drivers exceeding the motorway speed limit of 70mph.
