GOALPARA: Gayatri Nath, former BJP ward commissioner of Ward No. 16 under Goalpara Municipal Board (GMB), has refuted a graft charge leveled against her by a Bapujinagar-based local girl through a media report published on Saturday.
In a press meet held at the office of the District Journalists Association on Monday, Nath clarified her stand and declared that her name had been wrongly associated in a supposed scam of Re-SVAYEM government scheme through which selected self-help groups were provided cash benefits prior to the assembly election.

The Congress in Assam has announced the names of its candidates for 40 seats in the first of the three-phase election. The party has allowed all its MLAs to recontest in the Upper Assam region, which will vote on March 27.
Leader of Opposition Debabtata Saikia will contest from his traditional seat, Nazira. Former minister Rakibul Hussain will contest from Samuguri.
