Tony Romeo and his brother Lloyd set off to find the plane and solve the mystery of Earhart s disappearance in September, but after 100 days at sea with no results they had all but given up.
The pioneer s great nephew Bram Kleppner said the sonar images came as his family gave up hope of answers, but the images are more likely than anything that s come up before.
Earhart s great-nephew said the family would like to see the plane placed in the Smithsonian museum in Washington DC. They would also like her remains returned to her birthplace in Kansas.
