Some of the best holidays I’ve had were with groups of friends and family in Italy, France and Spain, hiring a big house where we could all stay, heading out to wineries, restaurants and markets by day, returning each night to cook and drink together.
Now that overseas is off the menu for a while, many Australian wine tourists are looking closer to home for their next group trip away. High on the list of must-visit regions is the Adelaide Hills. And as I discovered when I spent a couple of days there last month, wineries in the Hills are adapting well to this surge in demand: improving their food offering, expanding accommodation options and developing new, immersive wine experiences.
