Built by Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice Frederick Lothian Langhorst in 1947,
3560 Brunell Drive in Oakland has retained its original diminutive footprint, but has been expanded into a sizable home with stunning views.
As a draftsman to William W. Wurster in San Francisco from 1937-94, Langhorst worked on the Carquinez Heights Defense Housing and later established his own firm with his wife, architect Lois Langhorst. The pair designed both commercial and multi-unit buildings as well as single-family homes all over the Bay Area, from the Algeria Apartments in Berkeley to the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Vallejo, to the Cottage Park Community Building in Sacramento.
