Kerala planning to export banana to Europe via sea
The project which was initiated in June 2020 is now completed and the first consignment of Nendran bananas will be sent to the London Gate Way Port from the Cochin Port on March 5.

KOCHI: Considering the practical difficulties in exporting bananas to foreign countries through the air because of the Covid-19 protocol, the Kerala Government has entrusted the Vegetable and Fruits Promotion Council Keralam (VFPCK) to develop a protocol to facilitate the shipping of the same to European countries. The programme will be implemented with the help of Rs 35 lakh under the Remunerative Approach for Agriculture and Allied sector Rejuvenation programme of the Centre.

Two traffickers who tried to smuggle into the UK £32 million worth of cocaine disguised inside root vegetables have been jailed for a combined 36 years, authorities said. Juan David Perea Lopez, 26, and Bashar Fares Al-Safee, 31, arranged the importation of 400kg of the class A drug – which was concealed inside a shipment of yams from Costa Rica in 2016, said the National Crime Agency(NCA). They were convicted on Thursday following a seven-week trial after being charged with conspiracy to import and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, said the agency. The container arrived from Costa Rica to the London Gateway Port in Essex in June 2016, and was due to be delivered to an industrial estate in north-west London, it added.

Two men face a combined 36 years in prison after a National Crime Agency investigation found they were behind an attempt to smuggle cocaine worth £32million into the UK.
Juan David Perea Lopez, 26 of New Cross, London, and Bashar Fares Al-Safee, 31 from North Kensington, London, arranged to import 400kg of the class A drug, hidden in a consignment of yams from Costa Rica.
On 4 June 2016 NCA and Border Force officers examined a refrigerated container that had been shipped from Costa Rica to the London Gateway Port in Essex, and was due to be delivered to an industrial estate in North-West London.
