VSBW: Important milestone on Southsea Coastal Scheme April 15, 2021, by Eldin Ganic The VSBW team, a VolkerStevin and Boskalis Westminster joint venture, has reached an important milestone on the £100m Southsea Coastal Scheme, installing a total of 250 steel sheet piles along the first section of the defences, stretching from Long Curtain Moat to Clarence Pier. The piles, that VolkerGround Engineering began installing at the beginning of December last year, will form part of the new sea defences. “Despite encountering bad weather conditions, stiff clay and ground re-compaction after pre-augering, the piling team made excellent progress to complete the western section of the scheme, after finishing the eastern section ahead of program,” said VSBW.

Southsea Coastal Scheme: Rock from Norway for Frontage 1 April 13, 2021, by Eldin Ganic The Southsea Coastal Scheme, responsible for delivering new sea defences along 4.5km of seafront from Old Portsmouth to Eastney, has just released the latest project update. “This week sees us taking delivery of 5,600t of rock from Norway that will be used to create the revetment at Frontage 1 (Long Curtain Moat),” according to the official announcement. “A coaster used to ship the rock has anchored in the Solent whilst a barge and tug brings the rocks closer to shore for offloading and stockpiling directly onto the beach, ready for the works to commence,” the statement reads.

TSHD Sospan Dau back in Southsea - Dredging Today

TSHD Sospan Dau back in Southsea December 22, 2020, by Zlatan Hrvacevic Following a visit in November to form the eastern temporary platform, the TSHD Sospan Dau has returned to the Southsea coast. The dredger will continue rainbowing material onto the foreshore, between Clarence Pier and the Spur Redoubt. The dredged material will be levelled to complete the installation of the western temporary working platform. VSBW, a VolkerStevin and Boskalis Westminster Ltd. joint venture, is the main contractor working to deliver the new sea defences as part of the Southsea Coastal Defence Scheme. Stretching for 4.5km from Old Portsmouth to Eastney, the scheme will help to reduce the risk of flooding to more than 10,000 homes and 700 businesses.
