A faulty fresh-air intake attached to a boiler at Longfellow Elementary School caused the carbon monoxide leak Wednesday that sent nine people to area hospitals. All have since been released.

When it comes to maintaining Kansas City Public Schools, Longfellow Elementary School has one of the highest maintenance bills.

The school was evacuated

Several ambulances were dispatched to Longfellow Elementary School Wednesday morning in Kansas City, Missouri.

Five states have state laws requiring carbon monoxide detectors in school buildings, but Missouri and Kansas are not among them.

Sixty-one runners competed Saturday in Arkansas Valley Advocates for Dyslexia’s first fundraising event, the Dyslexia Dash, a 5K run starting at Longfellow Elementary School.

Many people posted on social media about the incident, saying they heard and/or saw "flash bang" devices used by officers.

School year now in full swing
