Many teachers leave high-poverty schools for less stressful classrooms, but some veteran educators choose to stay.

The L.A. school district implemented four “acceleration days” for their students that aimed to fill the gaps in student learning, exacerbated by the pandemic. But less than 8 percent attended and the overall cost of these sessions remains unclear.

L.A. Unified worked to make optional "acceleration days" work for students and help them raise grades. But most students opted for a full spring break instead.

Again and again, teachers unions have shot down the idea, pointing to the complex and fragile ecosystem that can be disrupted by trying to address just one piece of the broader inequality plaguing public education.

Many have asserted that COVID robbed students in Washington State with regards to learning, and that post-pandemic, it would be a gradual climb to return to pre-pandemic levels. That could become more challenging based on a recent report.
