Man dies after road traffic accident in Whitehaven The collision, on the Loop Road, happened at around 4.55pm. It involved two vehicles a Volkswagen Polo and a Citroen Nemo. Local man, John McTear, aged 85, known to friends and family as Jack,  died while in intensive care at Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne. Officer have name the man after the crash on the Loop road on Thursday night. The road was closed for several hours hour while an investigation was carried out. The force has named the 85-year-old-man as John McTear from the area.
