The statue of Gen. George Armstrong Custer at Elm Ave. and Monroe St. is scheduled for deep cleaning and maintenance every three to five years.

Monroes Walk for Life is a fundraiser and effort to raise awareness and support for pro-life Pregnancy Centers in Monroe County.

"Every Step Counts" is the theme for this years Monroe Walk for Life. The fundraiser event includes speakers and a procession in downtown Monroe.

Local history: A local societys agenda was to beautify Monroe, clean up garbage, purify water, and preserve Monroe history.

An estimated 1,500 people braved chilly temperatures to enjoy the ceremonial kickoff of the holiday season in downtown Monroe.

Each spring going back to 2007, Monroe County residents have been invited to participate in a community-wide, month-long book club. Originally launched as The Big Read through the National Endowment for the Arts, the project was reorganized and is now One Book, One Community of Monroe County supported by local sponsors.
