Athol: Grosky seeks return to Selectboard MITCHELL R. GROSKY Published: 3/11/2021 2:04:07 PM Modified: 3/11/2021 2:04:05 PM ATHOL Unless someone mounts a winning write-in campaign, current Athol Royalston Regional School Committee member Mitchell R. Grosky will slide unopposed into the Selectboard seat being vacated by William Chiasson, who has resigned. Grosky, who is the only person to return nomination papers for the seat to the Town Clerk, would serve the one year remaining on Chiasson’s term. Grosky previously served on the Selectboard from 2015 to 2016, when he was elected to finish out the term of Susannah Whipps, who resigned after being elected to the state Legislature. He also served as a town meeting member under the old town charter. He has been a member of the School Committee for seven years. He and his wife, Anne, have resided in Athol for more than four decades. They have two grown children.

Athol Senior Center at Lord Pond Plaza chosen for North Quabbin vax site Published: 2/22/2021 3:03:45 PM Modified: 2/22/2021 3:03:42 PM ATHOL Town Manager Shaun Suhoski has announced that the Vaccinate Athol Task Force, working in concert with Heywood Healthcare, has chosen the Athol Senior Center in Lord Pond Plaza as the site for a COVID-19 vaccination site. Suhoski said the task force has been working for some weeks to find a location for the site which would be accessible to residents of Athol and North Quabbin people who are currently facing long travel times to access the state’s mass vaccination sites. “Essentially, we were looking to meet the need locally in a method that we could accomplish and that was feasible,” said Suhoski. “So, we’re not going to be Gillette Stadium or Fenway Park; we needed a site that was primarily accessible to our elderly population, to folks with mobility or transportation challenges, and that quickly lent itself to a suggestion

Residents are being asked to complete a survey developed as part of the town’s participation in the state’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program, which is designed to help cities and towns respond to climate extremes and emergencies. “We had a site walk (at Lord Pond) in December and we had 25 or 30 people show up,” said Athol Director of Planning and Development Eric Smith, “and different concepts were discussed.
