Eight Wexford lifeboat volunteers were awarded the RNLI Long Service Medal last weekend after each reaching 20 years of service. The volunteers were Nick Bowie, Sinead Casey, Lorraine Galvin, Simon Gulliver, David Maguire, John Michael Murphy, Peter Scallan and David Sherwood.
Over 10,000 people attended Wexford’s first ever National Services Day parade as the men and women responsible for saving lives in the county showcased their work for the public. The parade itself was led by Johnny Fowler and the Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel (O.N.E.) with a representative from each organisation in attendance carrying their respective flags. With 15 groups in attendance, there more than 200 emergency services members in the parade.
National Services Day will take place in Wexford this Saturday September 2 from 12pm to 5pm, celebrating the men and women of the emergency services. The event is to recognise the work of the statutory and voluntary services and was made an official national day in 2018 by Taoiseach Leo Varadakar.
