Just 13 minutes ago, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Kifrī, Qaḑā’ Kifrī, Diyāla, Iraq. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday 12 February 2021 at 1:10 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
