Treasure Mountains officially opened to the public at 9 a.m. on Dec. 21, 1963, with much fanfare. Mayor William P. Sullivan cut the ribbon, declaring the resort open and ushering in “a new economic era for historic Park City.”

The Park City Police Department earlier in October fielded a report of a person described as a hunter, continuing a series of similar cases during the month.

The 1960s were a defining time in American history across culture, politics and art. In Park City, local leaders made a bold decision to redefine Park Citys history and place in America, laying the groundwork that would change the area from a fading mining town to a world-class winter sports destination.
