The No. 14 North Carolina wrestling team hosted the No. 21 Virginia Cavaliers for senior night and its last dual meet of the season on Saturday, overcoming UVA, 25-9.

Eight Tar Heel seniors were honored pre-match as part of North Carolina s senior night in Carmichael Arena. Sawyer Davidson, Andrew Gunning, Ethan Hoffman, Devin Kane, Nick Lirette, Will MacDonald, Josh McClure, and Kennedy Monday were each recognized for their commitment to the Carolina Wrestling family.
The dual started at the 133-pound weight class with Joe Heilmann donning Carolina Blue. Both wrestlers battled through the first two periods without a score until Heilmann earned an escape 30 seconds into the third period. With a point for riding time, Heilmann knocked off No. 10 Louie Hayes, 2-0, to earn three team points for the Tar Heels.

BLACKSBURG – The last two unbeaten ACC wrestling teams will meet at Cassell Coliseum Friday night when Virginia Tech hosts NC State at 8 p.m. on the ACC network. To follow public health guidelines and ensure the safety of Virginia TechStudent athletes, staff and fans, will wrestle without fans present until further notice. Only essential staff and relatives of the student athletes are admitted. Despite not allowing fans to enter Cassell Coliseum on Friday night, they can still show support for the team before the Hokies take on NC State. NC State (3-0, 1-0 ACC) traveled up to Charlottesville on Friday evening to kick-off their ACC schedule against the Virginia Cavaliers (1-1, 0-1). The Pack won seven of ten bouts, two for bonus points, which amounted to a 23-9 victory. And if you’re keeping track at home, that extends our nation-leading dual winning streak to 20.
The dual once again started at 125 pounds, and once again Jakob Camacho got us out to an early lead - this time to the tune of a 16-7 major decision. He really looks dialed in this season. I can’t wait to see how he stacks up against elite competition, but he’s a popular pick to make the NCAA finals opposite Iowa’s Spencer Lee in St. Louis.
