SLECA warns flooding at power facility could lead to extended outages in parts of Terrebonne
Power utility officials are warning of problems, including extended outages, that could arise from flooding around a key electrical facility that serves part of southern Terrebonne and east Houma.
Officials from the South Louisiana Electrical Cooperative Association discussed the issue Wednesday night with the Terrebonne Parish Council.
SLECA officials contend the problems resulted from wetlands a company created for something called a mitigation bank. In such projects, companies that damage wetlands in once place, can offset those losses by creating wetlands elsewhere.
Officials with the utility did not name the company and some of the details involved, citing ongoing litigation.
