Attempted suicide temporarily closes park in Franconia

FRANCONIA â Franconia Township Community Park was evacuated and remained closed for more than an hour after an officer encountered a female in a vehicle in the park about 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, Franconia Township Police Department said. It was immediately apparent that the female was armed and in crisis, the department said in a release. Additional officers responded to the scene, evacuated the park and secured the area, police said. Allentown Road was closed between Harleysville Pike (Route 113) and Indian Creek Road with the assistance of Telford Fire Police and the Franconia Township Public Works Department, police said. About 25 minutes later, the female sustained a self-inflicted, non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

Montgomery Awards Program recognizes projects that benefit communities

NORRISTOWNÂ â As the process to review submissions for the 54th annual Montgomery Awards Program gets underway, officials were looking for excellence. âWeâre trying to emphasize whatâs really exceptional so that it can inspire people to keep doing that,â said Pattie E.B. Guttenplan, the assistant director of design and outreach for the Montgomery County Planning Commission. There have been 222 projects recognized since the awards program was first created in 1967, according to a county spokesperson. Montgomery County seeks volunteers for vaccine registration

(Emma Lee/WHYY) Montgomery County is looking for more volunteers to assist seniors with computer literacy and internet issues pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine. “This call came about because of the need, of course, for seniors, who have no internet access or are technically not savvy, not being able to register for the vaccine,” said Doreen Hespell, administrator of the Office of Senior Services. Since it went live on Feb. 22, more than 1,700 people have been registered through the county’s vaccine hotline.
