JACKSON COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The boys basketball showdown for first place in the Interstate 8 between Coldwater and Pennfield is set for next Tuesday night at Pennfield.
The Cardinals took care of business Thursday night with a convincing 64-46 victory at Jackson Northwest while Pennfield bounced back from Tuesday’s loss to Marshall with a 59-40 win at Harper Creek.
Deandre Douglas led the Cardinals in the win over the Mounties with 19 points and three steals. Brandon Downs had 15 points while Ethan Crabtree had nine points and eight rebounds. Crabtree and Lu LeBron both had five assists.

BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals snapped a 26-26 halftime tie by outscoring the Marshall Red Hawks 22-6 in the third quarter on Saturday as they defeated the Redhawks 56-45 in an Interstate 8 game at Marshall.
Three Cardinals finished in double figures led by Brandon Downs with 19 points. Ethan Crabtree had 13 points and four rebounds. Lu LeBron had 11 points, eight assists and six steals.
The win improved Coldwater’s record to 9-1.

The underclassmen games were split. Coldwater won the J.V. contest 43-34 over Marshall. Zach Coffing had 11 points while Aiden Marsden had 10 points. They both had six rebounds. Marshall won the freshman game 43-34. Evan Porter had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Coldwater.

BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals escaped with a 45-41 victory over the upset minded Hastings Saxons on Thursday night in an Interstate 8 boys basketball game at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The rugged contest featured a total of 32 fouls and technical fouls on each team.
Coldwater improved to 8-1 despite a 14-for-27 night at the foul line. The game was tied at 39-39 with two minutes to go but foul shots by Lu LeBron, Nate Tappenden and Brandon Downs along with a basket by Downs were enough to give Coldwater the win.
