An argument could be made that MOD Pizza the Seattle-based company committed to sourcing fresh ingredients, animal welfare and fair labor practices is short for modern leaning.
But, actually, the name of Springfield’s newest za chain comes from how it constructs its pies each made on demand.
MOD Pizza has opened at 2401 Wabash Ave., sharing the address on the southern edge of the White Oaks Mall campus with fellow newcomer MISSION BBQ.
The fast casual pizza chain offers 10 classic combinations for those not comfortable in the driver’s seat.
Familiar staples like a basic cheese or sausage and pepperoni combo can be found here. But the classic menu also wanders further afield with the Lucy Sunshine (that pairs artichoke and mozzarella on a garlic-rubbed crust topped with dollops of red sauce) and the Tristan (that combines asiago cheese, roasted red bell peppers and mushrooms with a pesto sauce.)
