In honor of International Women’s Day, President Carol Folt hosted a Herstory event Monday, opening up the celebration by sharing how the women in her own life have inspired her through their resilience, compassion and creativity.
“We all have heroes and role models around us,” Folt said. “In my own life, I can think of my mother and her mother and all those who came before them, and I can think of my daughter and her daughter and all those who will come after them. And I think of my many colleagues and my students over the years, intelligent strong women working alongside me in labs and in administrative roles and as academic leaders.”
The campaign included creating a tuition lock for continuing students and prioritizing inclusion efforts. (Nayeon Ryu | Daily Trojan)
Alexis Areias and Lucy Warren were elected as the next president and vice president of the Undergraduate Student Government, Anna Rodriguez, chair of the USG elections commission, announced at the Senate meeting Tuesday. The results will be finalized by the director of campus activities next week.
Areias, a junior majoring in political science, who served as a senator this past year, and Warren, a junior majoring in economics, who served as chief diversity officer of USG, captured 53.90% of the voter turnout, amassing 1,920 votes in total in the preliminary results, becoming the second ever female-female ticket in USC history to win the presidency and vice presidency. Over 3,500 votes were cast in this year’s presidential election over the three day voting period last week, marking a near 25% decrease in voter turnout compared to last year.

Following the death of George Floyd, Black students created the @black at usc Instagram page to share instances of racism and microaggressions at USC. Several posts on the account claimed that former Undergraduate Student Government President Truman Fritz engaged in racial misconduct.
In response to these allegations, Abeer Tijani, a senior majoring in global health, called for Fritz’s immediate resignation due to his racially insensitive behavior. Despite having reached out to Fritz and Ritch on multiple occasions, Tijani was left ignored by the two. She then helped lead efforts on her Instagram account to impeach Fritz and Vice President Rose Ritch due to her complicity.
