Colombian man s search for missing brother ends in joy after 32 years 24 Feb 2021 / 23:17 H. By Luis Jaime Acosta BOGOTA, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Three-year-old Jhonatan was playing with his brother Alfonso in their garden in western Bogota on Sept. 25, 1987, when a family friend approached, inviting him to buy candy. Jhonatan went with the man, vanishing without a trace for 32 years. Older brother Juan Jimenez, then 7, was looking out the window when the man took his brother and grew up with his mother Ana s grief over the disappearance. Years later, in 1994, the man came to the house and alleged the boys stepfather had asked him to take the child. He said - falsely - that Jhonatan had been adopted in the United States.

ICU nurse gets Colombia s first coronavirus shot as rollout begins

Slideshow ( 2 images ) BOGOTA (Reuters) - Head nurse Veronica Luz Machado, who for months has battled the coronavirus pandemic from an intensive care unit in the northern Colombian city of Sincelejo, became the first person in the Andean country to receive a COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday. Beginning with Machado, 46, Colombia will kick off its plan to immunize 35.2 million people with vaccines acquired through a raft of bilateral deals as well as the World Health Organization-backed COVAX mechanism. “The pandemic really changed our lives completely, particularly for me and my colleagues, because we were facing an unknown virus, we didn’t know how to respond,” Machado, who works at Hospital Universitario, said in a government broadcast earlier this week, before receiving the first shot of Pfizer’s two-dose vaccine.
