A global review of three decades of health data has revealed huge health differences in men and women that begin in adolescence and grow throughout life. The study, published in Lancet Public Health , found that men faced a higher general burden of disease and were particularly affected by health issues that cause premature death.1 Women lived longer than men but endured higher levels of non-fatal illness throughout their lives. The researchers have called for more studies to understand the wide disparities between men and women and for new, gender specific health strategies to mitigate these.
