Valley Blue Sox pitcher Antonio Balducci won the NECBL’s Southern Division All-Star fan vote Friday to become the team’s fifth all-star.
The Richmond senior has a 2.70 earned-run average in seven appearances with 15 strikeouts. He garnered 900 votes across the four-day period, while no other player in the Southern Division amassed more than 600.
Balducci has coached at every Valley Blue Sox youth clinic this summer and has embraced the team’s chemistry and culture.
“It s been awesome. I love all the guys,” he said in a release. “These guys are some of the best players I’ve ever played baseball with. The competition is unreal, too. We face very good competition and a lot of good baseball players, so I’m hoping to end the season on a positive note and take this All-Star appearance back with me for my final season at the University of Richmond.”

On the strength of three-run second and third innings, the Valley Blue Sox continued their strong start to the 2021 NECBL season behind a 9-4 win over the Mystic Schooners on Thursday night at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke.
Trailing 2-0 after one inning, the Blue Sox (11-5) scored three in the second and three in the third to snatch control. Valley moved into first place in the NECBL Southern Division, one game ahead of the Newport Gulls.
