When I reported my first news story back in 2015, I did not anticipate that it would eventually lead me out of Ohio and into the West. I had no idea the rollercoaster that journalism would be, and continues to be, as a career. I had no idea that I would fall in love with providing residents the information they deserve and need to know. To that end, I hope I can be of service to this city. I moved from Athens, Ohio, to Pueblo late last month after News Director Luke Lyons offered me the politic...

The Pueblo Chieftain I spent the better half of my winter vacation cleaning out crammed closets, over-flowing cabinets and jam-packed drawers. (Doors on some closets had to be slammed quickly in order for things to not spill out.) I have known for quite a long time there was a deep clean “a-coming”. I have been so busy I have neglected the everyday organizing that it takes to keep everything spiffy. And, truthfully, I just didn’t want to start because I knew how much work it would be....

I grew up reading The Pueblo Chieftain. An avid sports fan, I would clip photos from the sports section of my favorite athletes, Sammy Sosa and Michael Jordan. I would read box scores of local preps teams (in particular my alma mater Pueblo County High School). And as I got older, I would read The Chieftain to stay up-to-date on current news. In high school, in Florence Relph’s journalism class, I would imagine myself the sports editor of the paper someday. Fast forward some 16 years later, a...

Take care of your holiday Christmas cactus The Pueblo Chieftain If you are a “plant person”, odds are you might be getting a gift of a Christmas Cactus from friends or family this holiday season. This is a great gift to bring some color indoors during the winter. In their native environment (in Brazil) these plants grow as epiphytes, which mean they grow in trees like orchids. Around here we grow them in pots as houseplants. As the name implies, these plants are cacti, so they want to be ke...
