He allegedly reported on his unemployment insurance application that he temporarily shut down his towing business because of the pandemic, but the release alleged that he failed to disclose on his application that he also owned a fencing company that records show did not close or suffer a slowdown in 2020.

Both were given a four-year deferred sentence and ordered to pay large restitution fees of more than $14,000 each; a deferred sentence serves as a guilty plea but, at the end of the term, if the defendant follows a set of conditions, their guilty plea is withdrawn.
