He is one of hundreds of HIV-positive people participating in clinical trials for COVID-19 vaccines. “I’m glad that I participated, that it led to the body of knowledge,” he said. But being a part of the vaccine trials was not always an option for him or the 1.2 million HIV-positive people in the U.S. They fought for it. HIV is a lifelong infection that attacks the immune system. Once a death sentence, today there are many medications that can help people living with HIV keep their immune systems healthy and in check.
