Elevator pitch
Christchurch calls itself the city of cycling and backs this up with a rapidly expanding network of cycleways and other bike-friendly facilities thanks to generous government funding. Millions more have been set aside to complete major plans in the next few years, with community groups also chipping in.
Vicki Anderson offers a few highlights of events in Ōtautahi Christchurch this weekend and beyond. Oi Manawa, the earthquake memorial along the riverside, is a special place. Whenever I am passing, I like to stop and run my hand across the smooth pounamu, especially at night when the moon bathes it in a warm glow. It is a beautiful tribute to the sad events of February 22 and those who died in the 2011 earthquake. Aside from the civic event to acknowledge the 10th anniversary of that day, people throughout Ōtautahi are holding events. Connecting together as a community matters at these times.
Verdon Fleece and more. Meanwhile, Morrison is planning a legal challenge against regulations in Northern Ireland that have banned live music over Covid-19 concerns. As one of his notable contemporaries once mused: “When he sings God comes out. When he speaks, the devil’s arse comes out.” Six60 As part of a series of concerts held on Saturdays, Six60 is touring Aotearoa. The tour has received widespread international media attention and recognition noting that Six60 is an anomaly in the world touring circuit right now. Matiu Walters also appeared on
Good Morning Britain with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid and said: “We felt really fortunate we didn’t want the rest of the world to shut down for us to be able to do this, but look, we are lucky. We had some great leadership, and we did what we had to do.”
