There was just 7:33 left in the second quarter of Penn State men’s lacrosse’s battle against Michigan Friday evening. Then, Mac O’Keefe took the ball and launched it into the back of the Wolverines’ net to score his NCAA-record 213th career goal. His teammates, coaches, and the fans in Panzer Stadium erupted with exhilaration. “I sort of blacked out in the moment, to be honest, but it was very special,” O’Keefe said after the game. “There has been a lot of build-up. I haven’...

Photo Courtesy of Syracuse Athletic Communications) Duke took down Virginia in overtime on Thursday. Manhattan, Delaware and Georgetown all won in extra time. Mac O’Keefe is now the career goals leader in DI lacrosse. The Heels rolled the Orange out of the Carrier Dome. Saint Joes, Delaware and Towson all won vital games. I was able to watch Michigan at Penn State on Friday night. While it wasn’t the prettiest game you’ll ever see — especially on the defensive side of the ball — the c...

Who’s your pick? Denver Why? I’ve struggled over this one, but I’m landing on the Pioneers. Georgetown is a much different team with returns from injury, and I expect the venue change will make this closer than first time around. But the Pioneers’ third-quarter surge against Villanova just showed me a lot to like about Denver. Alex Simmons has added a lot at attack, Jackson Morrill is the most inconspicuous star player ever, and even without Ethan Walker last week, the offense showed it...

Penn State men’s lacrosse (2-6) couldn’t catch a break Saturday afternoon at Panzer Stadium as it lost to No. 7 Rutgers (6-3) 22-10. Too little, too late was the theme for the Nittany Lions as they didn’t start putting it together on offense until the second half. Despite this, Penn State could never really make a dent in the lead after a strong first quarter by the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers’ offense was just too much to handle for the Penn State defense. The Nittany Lions made a goalie ...

We’ve dubbed it “Midseason Week” here on InsideLacrosse.com. And, though that in some ways is silly given the unique nature of 2021, it’s shed light on just how quickly it’s coming to an end (and how many good All-American-caliber players there are). If you look at this post giving a status update on all of the conferences, you’ll see that things are being decided right in front of our eyes. The Patriot League, which only has four teams going to its postseason, spread across two div...

Calling Penn State men’s lacrosse’s start to the season a disappointment would be an understatement, to say the least. After coming into the season as the No. 8 team in the country, the Nittany Lions sit at 1-3 after four games. Penn State’s most recent game was a shellacking at the hands of Johns Hopkins. Jeff Tambroni’s squad’s offense was ineffective and limited to only six goals in the 13-6 loss. Hopkins also held the Nittany Lions without a shot in the entire third quarter. It ...

Monday March 15th, 2021 8:00am We are living with postponements and programs in pause. We witnessed monster goal-scoring runs this week. We were treated to a more robust slate of Sunday games because of on-campus social distancing and facility availability. I think that’s a longterm positive. Why stack all the games on Saturday? The game grows when teams play on Thursday night, Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Everybody can’t play Saturday at the same time. Maryland, North Carolina and ...

Thu Mar 11 2021 | Patrick Stevens | College PHOTO BY RICH BARNES Mac OKeefe scored just twice in the seasons first two games but scored three times against Ohio State. When Penn State coach Jeff Tambroni describes this season as unlike anything he’s ever experienced, he’s not just talking about pandemic restrictions. That’s some of it, of course, but the Nittany Lions (1-2) have dealt with more moving pieces than most teams early in the season. Starting midfielder Jack Traynor and defense...

Pandemic restrictions, injuries and moving pieces have impacted the Penn State offense thus far.

Monday March 8th, 2021 8:45am (Inside Lacrosse Photo: James Beaver) It was a weekend of little change. Loyola, Ohio State and Richmond were the only Top 20 teams to meet defeat. We have a lot to look forward to this week, and many of the best games are on television. Wednesday High Point is at Duke. Thursday Night Lacrosse debuts on the ACC Network with Virginia and North Carolina. On Saturday, Hopkins hosts Penn State, then Rutgers and Maryland play for first place in the Big Ten. Sunday, fans...
