Made a beeline to the restroom. unphilly unfortunately it was the door to the womens restroom. house speaker paul ryan has been trying to calm nerves by insisting the bill does not gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions. tweeted today, verified, macarthur amendment strengthens. but that is not verified despite ryans use of the caps off button. his tweet contradicts the findings of really just about everyone who has looked at the bill including the aarp, which one hour after ryan...

Preexisting conditions are actually going to be covered under the new republican health care plan. listen to a claim that the president made about it just this weekend. >> preexisting conditions are in the bill, and i mandated it. i said it has to be. >> one of the fixes that discussed preexisting was optional for the states. >> sure, in one of the fixes, and theyre changing aand changing -- >> permanent? >> of course. >> joining us to discuss all of this, senior economic analyst stephen moore, ...

Related information, you can be held accountable so enter here journalists who either fail to divulge their sources or publish or print articles that divulge national security information. thats how you can punish the media without altering the first amendment. >> so far all weve seen from the administration is huffing and puffing threats to press freedom that are only verbal, not actual action. we havent seen anything done yet. hopefully thats all it becomes. >> you got an interesting discussio...

Means that you have to not only stop insurers from excluding people, but you also have to stop them from charging people many, many multiples of those without preexisting conditions. the macarthur amendment would insist states continue to cover preexisting conditions but would allow the insurers in the states to charge those preexisting conditions $1 million a month. theres nothing stopping that. so substantively this new macarthur amendment does not include coverage of preexisting conditions. u...

Do they have any power? >> well, talking about with reince priebus saying look at the libel laws im assuming he read the first amendment a huge road block to any of this. every single state has a different libel law and in order for congress, a body that has authority over federal laws, would have to actually either every state change it or pass a federal libel law. even if they were able to do that the first amendment for the last 50 years in the supreme court theres very clear precedent that s...

>> i think the way you protect that is, first and foremost you make it very clear. as we did in the first bill, but with the amendments that have taken place, in the last several weeks, and come forward, it is even better still, that were basically borrowing an idea from the state of maine that has seen a significant drop in premiums for people on their health insurance because you take people that have pre-existing and costly conditions and put them into a high-risk pool and you subsidize that ...

>> besides protecting them, are you going to be able to prevent their premiums from skyrocketing? thats the concern. if you isolate them into risk pools that the inevitable impact is the rise in premiums. how do you protect that? >> i think the way you protect that is, first and foremost you make it very clear. as we did in the first bill, but with the amendments that have taken place, in the last several weeks, and come forward, it is even better still, that were basically borrowing an idea fro...

Thunderous crowds, virtually unanimous support of the people who supported us in last falls election. but was even more inspiring to me, as we walk the shop room floor, not just the business owners expressing enthusiasm for the presidents plan to cut business taxes and cut taxes across the board, but the guys that had paused from working on the line, to reach out to this president and just thank him for being there. somebody said to me recently thatverybody that puts on a steel-toed bt ins couny...

Mechanics and actuarial science of insurance has come up with an amendment that we think works very well and it gets to where we all want to go. we want to bring down costs, preserve preks for people with pre-existing conditions, and we want to respect the fact that states, you know, have different issues, different health care marketplaces, and we want to give states greater flexibility so that they can get the maximum reduction in policies and premiums and so that we can get the best possible ...

Waiver, there are multiple layers of pre-existing condition protections, like continuous coverage. if you have a health care problem and you have health care insurance, you cant be denied or raided for higher health care costs, and if you switch your plan, you keep your coverage, the same protections apply, even if your state gets a waiver. but the more important point i think is why this amendment i think is a step in the right direction is we believe the smarter way to go on getting premiums d...
