quite yet. don t let the balloons fall from the rafters. the white house knows that. and going back to-to-your numbers, mike, 120 on the republican side, can you see circumstance under which john boehner would bring a floor to the bill of house if he thought he only had 120 republicans? it s problematic for john boehner and also for any congressional leaders specially in the house of representatives to essentially defy the base of their party and bring a bill to the floor that requires substantial help from the other side. i mean, we all watched sesame street, at least some of us did, but this is not i am a bill. this is raw partisan politics. it s always been this way through the history of the republic, i dare say, and it s simply not done. the term in washington is rolleded. a leader doesn t roll their base. a leader doesn t roll the person that made them leader or speaker. and so it s going to be a very difficult haul. and chris, as a matter of fact, in a sense it harkins back
these week of talks were revenue increases to go along with some of these budget cuts. everybody agrees that the level of the deficit we have now is unsustainable. so there are going to have to be cuts. the question was what is the ratio of revenue increases to budget cuts. that s what s been on the table. now, the president and the democrats had to cave on the revenue increases, part of it, all we all know. but what has gotten enough attention is what mike was referring to. on january 1st, 2013, no matter what happen, those bush tax cuts will expire whiches there will be a huge revenue increase. so it s essentially a situation where liberals have to wait a little while to get what they want of those revenue increases. you might say, well, aren t the republicans going to play some tricks and no. because what happens is obama even if he loses will still be president at that point and he
that how, but i talked to one senior aide who says it s quite possible that a majority of democrats will not vote for this. as a matter of fact, this individual said that they don t think that a majority of democrats will vote for it. so then you have to make it up with republicans. it will be very problematic. and let s talk about the problems with that. let s even put this some of this military spending aside, luke, and the folks that i ve been interviewing throughout the course of the day, and a balance the budget amendment for them is a deal breaker. so how many just on that alone with l. vote no. 40, 50? the numbers are all over the place here. but the one point that we need to make is while there s a lot of hope right now in washington, d.c. because the deal is on the horizon or it s our long national nightmare is over, if you will, with this debt crisis, there is still a long way it to go to get this through the united states house of representatives and to that magic number
pers p the president started out asking for a clean raise in the debt ceiling. he ends up with almost $3 trillion to cuts in spending. that s a republican victory. and taxes are off table they ll say. he wanted revenue. there is none in here. there is no revenue in this bill. one thing we should hasten to aa add, the bush tax cuts is not affected by this agreement as far as we understand it. they will expire on schedule. all right. mike, luke, i m sure we ll be talking to you throughout the course of the evening. thank you for now. let s turn to one of the most progressive members in the house, congress manage jim mcdermott. thanks for joining us. good to be here. will you vote for this bill. i m doubt until that i will. i voted for lifting the debt ceiling 60 days ago. we did it four times for bill clinton. we did it seven times for george
