Gatton man drives 2000 km to court to avoid arrest

Darren John Appleyard emailed the Gatton Magistrates Court on Monday, February 8, stating he could not appear in court as he was working remotely. With Appleyard’s charges dating back nearly 12 months, Magistrate Damian Carroll issued a warrant for his arrest and said “we can’t just keep waiting around for him”. Two weeks later on February 22, Appleyard fronted the Gatton court and said he had “just travelled 2000 kilometres to be here,” from South Australia. Tooth extraction lands Lockyer man in court on drug charges

Rhys Bryan Harrison pleaded guilty in the Gatton Magistrates Court on February 8, 2021 after police intercepted him driving on Blenheim Road on December 13, 2020, at the height of the Christmas road safety campaign. Police prosecutor senior sergeant Al Windsor said Harrison, 31, conducted a roadside drug test and was subsequently conveyed to the Laidley Police Station where he provided a specimen of saliva for analysis. A certificate confirmed the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his system.

Jamie Alexander Heike A Jimboomba father-of-two was caught twice driving in the Lockyer Valley while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Staggeringly, Jamie Alexander Heike, 41, was the holder of only a learners permit when Laidley police busted him. The labourer appeared in the Gatton Magistrates Court on Monday, February 8, and pleaded guilty to two charges - driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while a drug was present in his system. Police prosecutor senior sergeant Al Windsor said police intercepted Heike driving a Holden sedan on Mountain Road, Laidley, and conducted a roadside drug test. Police checks on Heike s licence revealed he was the holder of a learner driver permit.
