Man denies using fake cheques to defraud businesses

fjohnson@tribunemedia.net A 32-year-old man who denied using fraudulent insurance cheques to defraud three businesses will appear before a magistrate next year to determine whether he will be granted bail before his trial. Another man accused of similar offences was yesterday granted $3,500 bail before his hearing. In the first incident, Brent McPhee appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney after he was accused of using fake JS Johnson cheques to defraud three hardware stores of over $16,000 worth of supplies between November and December. Yesterday, he was charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit fraud, five counts of possession of a forged document, five counts of uttering a forged document and five counts of fraud by false pretences.

Man and two teenagers deny possession of firearm, ammunition

fjohnson@tribunemedia.net A MAN and two teenagers who denied being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal ammunition were yesterday granted bail ahead of their trial. Dominique Rolle, 24, Rayvaughn Pinder, 18, and Dion Exelant, 18, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney after police alleged they found them with a black glock 43 pistol and eight rounds of unfired 9mm ammunition on December 21. During the arraignment, all of the defendants denied the allegation and the matter was adjourned to February 1 for trial. In the meantime, Pinder, Rolle and Exelant were granted $8,000 bail.

Fraud accused granted bail

fjohnson@tribunemedia.net A 31-year-old man, accused of defrauding three people of nearly $40,000, was yesterday granted bail before his trial. The prosecution said Andre Moncur unlawfully obtained $12,000 from Derrick Sands on July 21. They further alleged that the accused illegally obtained another $12,000 from Lavancia Palmer on March 12 and defrauded another woman of $15,000 sometime between November 25 and December 6. During his hearing before Magistrate Samuel McKinney yesterday, Moncur pleaded not guilty to three counts of fraud by false pretences. As a result, the case was adjourned to January 26 for trial. In the interim, Moncur was granted $8,500 bail.

Man denies throwing rock at woman

fjohnson@tribunemedia.net A 20-year-old man who denied assaulting a woman with a rock last month was granted $1,500 bail ahead of his trial. Clyde Dames appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney after he was accused of throwing a rock at his girlfriend’s sister on November 20. He pleaded not guilty to one count of assault with a dangerous instrument and the case was adjourned to January 19 for trial. Dames was granted $1,500 bail until that time.
