James A. DeRienzo
WATERBURY – James Anthony DeRienzo Jr. passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at the age of 67. He was the devoted husband of Karen (Nigro) DeRienzo.
Born in Waterbury on Dec. 13, 1953, Jim was the son of the late James A. and Josephine A. (Labella) DeRienzo Sr. He was a graduate of Wilby High School, class of 1971, and went on to attend Western Connecticut State University where he met his wife Karen. Jim played football at both schools and loved sharing those memories.
Jim’s life was dedicated to his family and operating the Spirit Shop in Waterbury for over 40 years. Like many small business owners, he was defined by his hard work and perseverance. Jim acquired many close friendships in his lifetime. He will be sadly missed by his loved ones.

Jennifer A. Berardi
WATERBURY – Jennifer “Jenny Boom Boom” A. Berardi, age 53, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at Waterbury Hospital.
Jennifer was born on Jan. 3, 1967, in Waterbury, daughter of Rachele (D’Amelio) (Berardi) Cuccinello and the late Francis Berardi Sr.
Her funeral will be on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 8:30 a.m. from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow in Calvary Garden Mausoleum. Walk-through calling hours will be 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Everyone attending will be required to wear face masks and social distancing guidelines will be strictly followed.

WATERBURY Mr. Daniel R. Varrone, age 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020. He was the loving husband of Ann M. (Mathieu) Varrone.
Mr. Varrone was born on Jan. 21, 1943, in Waterbury, son of the late Donato and Concetta (Fusco) Varrone. He was a graduate of Croft High School and a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Loreto Church. Dan’s career in the manufacturing industry spanned over 50 years working for Berco Manufacturing, Burndy Manufacturing, and Electro Tech Inc., from where he retired overseeing procurement, scheduling and purchasing.
He was a graduate of the Waterbury Citizens Police Academy, a diehard NY Yankee fan, and enjoyed a good card game. He bowled for many years at Lakewood Lanes, was a classic car aficionado, and was proud of his perfect lawn and yard.

WATERBURY – Mrs. Marilyn A. (Santopietro) Gerace, age 75, of Waterbury, and Kennebunkport, Maine, passed away on the day of her birth, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the loving wife of Robert Gerace.
Marilyn was born on Dec. 13, 1945, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Ralph and Lillian (Walsh) Santopietro. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, held a bachelor’s degree in English and Latin from Our Lady of Elms College, and obtained her master’s degree in reading from Southern CT State University.
She taught in the Waterbury school system for over 20 years. She began her career at Sacred Heart High School where she taught English and Latin. After having children, Marilyn returned to her profession working part-time at Waterbury Adult Education. She went on to teach at Saint Mary’s School and then Wilby High School where she taught English and Latin and served as department chair until her retirement. She was a m
