show our allies, egypt and the uae, talking about making deals to sell rockets to russia. talking about deals to side step american and u.k. intelligence. there s stuff in here that truly undermines and raises questions about where the united states is and exactly who our friends are out there. not to mention concerns about whether ukraine can succeed in this spring offensive. so a lot of stuff in here. we re going straight to that when they come to the podium and start taking questions about this. meantime, a new legal battle could make abortion a huge issue in the 2024 election. you can argue it was a big issue in the mid-terms as well. so now the justice department is appealing a judge s order to suspend fda approval of a drug that is used to end most pregnancies in this country.
is running for re-election, too. you know how brutal the campaign trail to be. how important for his delivery tonight? i think he has a lot that he can promote that we ve gotten done. the good news, you mentioned he has legislative wins with the exception of the american rescue plan and the inflation reduction act, the wins, infrastructure, chips, veterans bill, gun safety, bipartisan. he can say i spent 36 years in the senate, eight years as vice president making deals, including across the aisle. this is what we need in this country right now is people willing to work together and i know how to do it in a way that nobody else can match. and we have kevin mccarthy will be there, republican house speaker, over his left shoulder. senator tim kaine, thank you. appreciate your time. i am so excited. are you for this next story? what are you talking about?
sitting house committee members to be investigated. this insures they will not be investigated having an election denier as the chair and implications for george santos who is under investigation. they will be looking at santos. saying if it is unethical if he is dishonest. a committee that for decades have been fairly bipartisan is going a different direction. from the priorities of the mccarthy-led majority seem to be kick democrats off of certain committees, investigate president biden. they won the house. how does that agenda track with the priorities of the general public? they don t. you know, i think some of it is very predictable when we sat together watching the 15 rounds of voting for speaker. because with each round mccarthy and his agents were making deals
not in literal terms. but, you, know theoretical turns. we re about an hour from the house reconvening where we think how speaker mccarthy on the 14th ballot will be elected speaker of the house. it s been four days of the house failing to function or even swear in his members. four days of kevin mccarthy making deals with some of the most extreme anti democratic pro if it doesn t portend well for the next two years. and then it is not done. it s going to go late into the early morning. and we don t know if they have all the votes for everything. nothing is assured even though they re projecting confidence. joining me now, elaina plott calabro. and elie mystal who is still onset with. me elaina, let me start with you about the meaning of all this. and what this week means. at some level, it feels like you have the speakership going
agreed not to spend money in certain races which conservatives were pushing for. first of all, what does it say that kevin mccarthy would even make these concessions and what does it say that even with that, the holdouts are still unwilling to take the win? usually when you re making deals, you don t give something away and get nothing back. but that seems to be the dynamic we have here. i m not sure how much more kevin has in the bank to give. those are a lot of concessions. i thought the clf concession where the outside superpacs which are supposed to be uncoordinated, don t get involved in primaries. i thought that was a very big thing. and it got nowhere. this doesn t seem to be anything that is ideological. it seems very personal to me. and the big question i have is if this doesn t work, and kevin doesn t get it t while these concessions aply to the next guy, who is going to take his
