Maldives: Two journalists assaulted by police during protest coverage
Maldivian journalists Hassan Shaheed and Ahmed Misbaah were assaulted by police on February 6 while reporting on a protest against the sentencing of former president, Abdulla Yameen, near the Peoples Majlis (Parliament House) in Malé. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) joins its affiliate, the Maldives Journalists Association (MJA), in condemning the police’s use of violence towards journalists and urges authorities to swiftly investigate the case.
