Ogden Mayor Nadolski has announced that he is working with his police department to change its “point system” that has long been criticized by officers and lawmakers as an illegal police quota.
Republicans and Democrats say some Utah lawmakers are playing games, using a “sneaky” tactic designed to kill popular bills. Some legislators call it a “pocket veto.”
OGDEN â The decision last week by Ogden officials to disperse the homeless encampment on 33rd Street struck Loveena Winkelkotter as unfair.
âTheyâre not given any support. Theyâre just told they need to leave,â she said. âYou canât tell someone to leave if thereâs nowhere for them to go.â
Her dismay and discord among others over the forced removal of the tent city encampment spurred a small demonstration Monday on Washington Boulevard, across from the Ogden municipal building. Around 10 people gathered, variously advocating for the homeless and what they say should be the right of the homeless to gather and form encampments.
OGDEN â A homeless encampment that had formed along 33rd Street in southern Ogden has been disbanded.
Ogden police, advocates for the homeless and others converged on the encampment Thursday afternoon, prodding those who had been living in tents and other makeshift structures to vacate the location, just outside the Lantern House homeless shelter. The aim going forward is to keep the location clear, and an Ogden police officer was stationed there Friday to aid in the effort, said Mike McBride, communications manager for the City of Ogden.
âWe werenât just sending people away. We want them to utilize the Lantern House and get the services they need,â McBride said Friday.
