St Patrick's Day is being reimagined across Cork

While there may be no physical parades taking place across Cork this St Patricks Day, Cork County Council have announced details of a number of virtual St Patrick's Day activities, including the greening of many public buildings along with a range of local events marking our National Day, many of which are supported by the local authority. In addition, many local groups have arranged their own events, also taking place online. And all of these are in addition to a national series of events. "St Patrick's Day is poignant this year, as our usual parades and street celebrations are reimagined for a second year," Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, said. "This past year has proven we are adaptable and innovative, we are a community that cares and looks out for one another, and while the battle to beat this virus continues, we find new ways to mark special occasions.

Plan for €5m arts centre at former Mallow Town Hall back on the table

A SENIOR Cork County Council official has said it is anticipated planning permission will be sought for the development of an arts centre at the former Mallow Town Hall during the early part of this year. Mary Hayes was responding to a query on the progress of the multi-million project in a motion placed before the January Kanturk/Mallow district meeting by Cllr Gearóid Murphy. As far back as July 2016 pen was put to paper on a contract for the proposed arts centre, with the initial proposal making provision for a 200-seat auditorium and dressing rooms, a gallery/exhibition space, a tourism office and arts studios and work spaces.
